Unlike many federal agencies, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services primarily relies on self-generated revenue – revenue from various application fees. Since the start of Vergys, we have supported the CFO in calculating these fees through the use of activity-based costing and business intelligence tools. Our work ensures fees adequately fund operations while remaining affordable to those applying for immigration benefits.
The FDA has the important task of ensuring the safety and availability of drugs for use by the American public. Its mission is supported by a team of talented reviewers, researchers, and scientists as well as the IT tools that aid their work. Oversight of such tools was ad hoc upon our arrival – lacking traceability or a formal process. Since then, we have incrementally matured budget, acquisition, reporting, and governance activities while improving efficiency and compliance. As we continue to refine operations, we enable FDA to maintain the IT infrastructure needed for effective drug review.
At VA’s Office of Construction and Facilities Management (CFM), creating the annual budget was an onerous task dependent on the back-and-forth of email and the institutional knowledge of a few. Working alongside the financial team, we documented, assessed, and revamped processes to create a better budgeting experience. Central to this experience was the design of an online portal powered by SharePoint, allowing for easy configuration and maintenance. With our help, CFM is now able to develop and prioritize its budget in a transparent and repeatable way.
